Pathao Connect - Product Design Case Study

Product design case study: how Pathao Connect formalized street-side bike rides with instant pairing, live tracking, insurance, and safer journeys.

Case study by Muhidul Hasan (Muhid), Senior Product Designer at Pathao. Pathao Connect is an offline ride coordination system that brings street-side bike rides - locally called "khep" - into the Pathao app with instant pairing, live tracking and insurance coverage.

Dhaka sees an estimated 100,000 to 200,000 bike trips each day, most of them arranged informally at the roadside with no tracking, no accountability and no coverage.

Pairing was collapsed from three competing methods (QR scan, PIN entry, OTP) to a single 6-digit Connect Code shown in the rider’s app and refreshed every 3–5 minutes, with phone number and OTP kept only as a fallback.

Safety controls were moved above the fold on the active ride screen: a 999 emergency toggle, Pathao Support and instant location sharing, plus insurance coverage up to ৳100,000 per user.
